Family Get Together (FGT) 2026

One Day - 130 Smiles - Unlimited Laughter.

The PSG Tech Alumni Association – Chennai Chapter’s Family Get Together (FGT) on Sunday, 25 January 2026, at Blue Lagoon Resort, Chennai, was one for the memory books. With 70+ alumni registrations and around 130 participants including families and children, this turned out to be the largest FGT in recent years—and easily one of the most fun-filled.

The day kicked off with cheerful introductions, where familiar faces reconnected and new ones were warmly absorbed into the ever-growing PSG Tech alumni family. Once the ice was broken, it was game on—quite literally.

The children’s games brought out energy levels that adults could only admire (and envy). The tug of war quickly became a crowd favourite, with children pulling earnestly while adults shouted expert advice from the sidelines—most of it contradictory. The most heart-melting moment came right after the pull, when a young boy innocently asked his father, “Who won, papa?”—completely unaware that his own team had already won. His happiness was clearly about the fun, not the victory, reminding everyone why these gatherings matter.

The musical chairs followed, bringing with it the usual confusion, chaos, and uncontrollable laughter. As participants dropped out one by one, the final showdown surprised everyone—a 74-year-old alumnus competing with a 6-year-old child. The sight of the two finalists together was priceless and had everyone cheering (and laughing) in equal measure.

If there was one event that truly lived up to its reputation, it was the women’s tug of war, proudly labelled the “Tug of the Century.” One team declared themselves the mothers-in-law, while the other confidently claimed the daughters-in-law title. After a spirited contest, the mothers-in-law emerged victorious—proving, once and for all, that experience does count!

Getting 130 people together for a group photograph deserves a medal of its own. With people moving, children disappearing, and adults being summoned repeatedly, the photographer’s sighs, huffs, and puffs became part of the entertainment. The final result, however, was worth every moment of chaos.

The selfie stand was another runaway hit, staying busy almost until lunchtime. From solo selfies and family clicks to batch-mate reunions and creative group shots, it was rarely unoccupied—and clearly loved by all age groups.

The FGT was made even more special by the generous support of sponsors. D.I.Y.A (Do It Yourself Academy) Labs, promoted by Udhay Sankar P, (2014 Instrumentation & Control Systems) kept children (and quite a few adults!) fascinated with robotic models and automobiles. SS Native City, promoted by S. Swetha, (2022, Diploma in apparel technology) drew crowds of all ages with irresistible sweets and savouries—proving that age truly has no bar when it comes to good food. Both sponsors were felicitated with mementos and gifts by the Chennai Chapter office bearers.

A heartfelt highlight of the day was the generous contribution by Mr. N. Chandrasekkaran (1966 Mechanical), who sponsored a lump-sum amount for the event. Thanks to his gesture, this became the first FGT conducted with no expense to the chapter accounts—a milestone moment that was warmly acknowledged and honoured.

After an energetic outdoor morning, the afternoon moved indoors for a relaxed session of songs, dances, and performances by alumni and children. The mimicry segment had the audience in splits, especially when a volunteer was invited on stage to “learn” mimicry on the spot. A Rajini-style dance brought loud cheers, while the children’s performances—prepared specially for the event—were pure delight for the eyes and ears.

As evening tea and snacks were served, the FGT gently wrapped up, leaving everyone with happy hearts, new friendships, well-fed appetites, and the shared feeling of a day spent exactly the right way—with laughter, bonding, and plenty of memorable moments.
